Hi there friends! It's officially summer and I think I've worm my bikini every day this week. It's wonderful. I'm only a little sunburned, I promise.
I've also been training hardcore, high gear, for my half marathon that's a WEEK FROM TOMORROW! (Insert shrieking and terror here.) I've trained MUCH harder for this race than my last race, almost entirely because this time around I have an amazing coach holding me accountable to actually doing long runs, tempo runs, fast runs, and (some...) strength work which basically means I did a plank last week.
I'm tapering now, which means I'm cutting down on intensity, milage, and workouts, and replacing some of my fats and proteins with carbs to restore my glycogen for the big (hilly, hot, sweaty, challenging, terrifying) day.
I'm almost constantly sore and during my twelve-miler last Saturday the blisters on my feet popped and I started crying on the treadmill. (TMI?)
But it's ok because NOTHING beats the endorphin rush and I'm burning calories like it's my job which means tons of food, including tortilla chips and salsa and this gluten-free zucchini bread. --> http://www.sondibruner.com/2013/08/22/summerlicious-zucchini-bread/ (seriously, make it, best stuff ever. I replaced half a cup of the flour with almond flour and I eat it doused with melted peanut butter.)
I also have been seeing some friends and hanging with family and actually READING FOR PLEASURE and eating at all my old favorite hotspots back in my hometown.
After a stressful year, from a concussion to learning how to study and juggle classes and work and a personal life to training for races and becoming more competitive in running, being home and getting to chill out for a bit is super nice!
What are you all up to?
Do you know how to treat blisters?
Please encourage me, I'm scared that I'll die on Hospital Hill next week. K thanks.
Hope everyone gets at least a little time to lounge, relax, inhale some indulgent calories (ZUCCHINI BREAD), and enjoy the warmer weather!
