Thanks for stopping by!
I'm a 19 year old college student, and this is my little internet corner to write down my musings on healthy eating and body thoughts, running and training, and veganism.
I'm studying Nutrition and Kinesiology, a major that I fell into after running, fitness, and healthy eating became huge parts of my life in high school.
I became a vegetarian as a junior in high school on a whim. I came from a family of meat eaters and basically ate the standard American Diet (SAD), but after transitioning to healthier (read: lighter) eating habits, I had cut most meat out of my diet naturally and even started baking some things vegan! As a vegetarian I still treated myself to cheesy pasta dishes, ice cream, and baked goods. Eventually, after reading Diet for a New America, I decided I couldn't endorse these products anymore and made the full switch to veganism, at the tail end of my junior year of high school, mostly for ethical reasons. I'm also very aware of and proud of the healthy effects veganism has on the body!
I'm now what you'd consider a strict vegan, which means I avoid honey, gelatin, dairy, eggs, meat, cheese, and any other animal product. I don't wear leather or wool or put beeswax on my lips.
I became interested in fitness and health mid-high school (I wasn't a super athletic child!) when I was tired of feeling chubby and tired and fell in love with the gym and fitness classes.
I did maybe go a bit overboard though, I eventually was hitting up both the 4:45 AM interval training classes at our local gym, running every morning, taking kickboxing classes nightly, and eating mainly 60-calorie diet yogurts, pretzel rods, and spinach. Great for weight loss, bad for energy! I lost weight quickly but also lost some hair and got some crummy side effects, so I began eating more healthy fat and a more varied diet. Becoming vegan definitely helped me learn to eat healthier!
Now I run 5Ks and 10Ks and have completed a half marathon (I'm training for my second!) and I eat a super veggie-full vegan and gluten free diet, which makes me feel awesome!
Feel free to email me with any questions -- personal, workout, diet, or otherwise!
